E-Cigarettes Banned, Says Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman
NEW DELHI:

The government today announced a ban on e-cigarettes. "It means the production, manufacturing, import/export, transport, sale, distribution, storage and advertising related to e-cigarettes are banned," Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said at a press conference.

The Prohibition of E-cigarettes Ordinance, 2019, was recently examined by a Group of Ministers (GoM) following directions from the Prime Minister's Office.

In the draft ordinance, the Health Ministry has proposed a maximum imprisonment of up to one year along with a penalty of Rs. 1 lakh against first time violators.

Banning alternative smoking devices like e-cigarettes, heat-not-burn smoking devices, vape and e-nicotine flavoured hookahs was among the key priorities of the first 100 days agenda of the Narendra Modi government in its second term.

Union ministers Nirmala Sitharaman and Prakash Javdekar today briefed the media on key Cabinet decisions. The Union Cabinet today approved 78 days' of wages as bonus for Railway employees. It will lead to outgo of over 2,000 crore. The Cabinet also banned production, export, import and distribution of e-cigarettes. E-cigarettes are battery-operated devices that produce aerosol by heating a solution containing nicotine, which is the addictive substance in combustible cigarettes.

Nice... Ee e-cigarettes are more dangerous ani chadiva..

this is 2 years back video

still need more data to prove it  ippudu varaku vachinavi anni large amount of data nunchi vachina conclusions kaadhu. public health gurinchi concern unnappudu why dont they ban cigarettes also, which was proven time and time that it causes cancer, this decision looks like they are favoring the cigarette companies as e-cig trending is hurting the regular cigarette companies.

U.S lo naa colleague father was a chain smoker and got lung cancer , they asked him to quit smoking  he switched to e-cig  treatment time lo kooda he used e-cigs now he is out of cancer, This was obviously shared by my colleague, thats how i found about e-cigs. the only side effect he said is that he feels thirsty every time he uses e cig.

I believe more research has to be done before coming to conclusion

if e-cig are dangerous to health so are cigarettes why dont they ban both. my guess is that it will effect the tobacco companies, the tobacco crop farmers etc eventually the income to the govt.

Not really.. the ill effects of regular cigarettes are widely known already.. E-Cigs have become a fad with the younger lot who seem to think they are harmless... This is a good decision by the government.
