I don’t know writer’s intention in saying that... The name Hindustan is derived from the Persian word Hindū cognate with the Sanskrit Sindhu, the local name of the Indus river. The Proto-Iranian sound change *s > h occurred between 850–600 BCE, according to Asko Parpola. Hence, the Rigvedic Sapta Sindhava (the land of seven rivers) became hapta hindu in Zend Avesta. It was said to be the "fifteenth domain" created by Ahura Mazda, apparently a land of 'abnormal heat'. In 515 BCE, Darius I annexed the Indus valley to his empire, calling the land Hindu from the Sanskrit name Sindhu of the Indus river. During the time of Xerxes, the term was applied to the lands to the east of Indus. In middle Persian, probably from the first century CE, the suffix -stān was added, indicative of a country or region, forming the present word Hindūstān. In the 11th century, a satellite state of the Ghaznavids in the Punjab became known as "Hindustan", with the capital at Lahore. The rulers of the Delhi Sultanate and the Mughal Empire called their dominion, centered around Delhi, "Hindustan". However, with time and colonization, the term widened its geographical scope to include the entire territory of British-ruled India. Iqbal’s Urdu song ‘Tarana-e-Hind’, popularly known as ‘Sare Jahan Se Achcha’ is an ode to Hindustan, the un-partitioned subcontinent of 1904. More importantly, if Rupee appreciates to 40, most people from this DB would be committing suicide. In fact, lets be honest, most from this DB would be very happy if it goes to 100. it is not congress vs bjp. lovemystate
The name India has nothing to do with Indus like it is beleived. It is name given to any people europeans did not understand or did not have enough of self identity. It comes from indegenous. Most people in the world are self identified based on language like Chinese, French, English, Arab, Turkish, Russian. However people whom europeans did not understand or maybe did not respect enough they simply called them Indos from which Indians comes. . thats why they called natives of americas also indians, we have "west indians", "toromonas indians". it is better to refer ourself with our language.Essenitally Indian is a disprespectful name
