In addition, if the bill is objected to by any Democratic Senator during Senator Lee’s request that the bill pass Unanimously in the Senate, come join us to make your voice heard and to explain to your Senators why discrimination based upon national origin simply has no place in a just and lawful 21st century immigration system.

Senator Durbin shamelessly just went to the Senator floor to ask for Unanimous Consent to pass a bill which increases green cards many folds, knowing all too well that such a bill will not pass in Congress. It is Halloween season and Senator Durbin is trying to trick his constituents in Illinois with this completely illogical bill.

A lot of people don’t know that Senator Durbin has been playing such games with the lives of immigrants for his entire time in Congress. Senator Durbin is biased and prejudiced against immigrants. Senator Durbin is anti-immigrant to his core and he is a disgrace to the Senate.

3.) Please call Senator Durbin office at (202) 224-2152 to –
a.) Express your support for “Green card equality”
b.) Tell him that “Separate is NOT EQUAL”, and
c.) Tell him to stop playing these games with the lives of immigrants
d.) Ask why he is holding you and your family hostage to his unreasonable demands

4.) Go to the website of the Democratic Senators from your State and look for the “Contact Us” page to send them the following message expressing your opposition to Senator Dick Durbin using his new bill to stall and kill the bipartisan Fairness bill.

Dear Senator,
Immigration Voice, a non-partisan organization, national grassroots organization of over 130,000 tax-paying and law-abiding highly-skilled-immigrants who live and work in the United States and seeks to improve the lives of skilled immigrants respectfully asks that your office please refrain from Co-Sponsoring Senator Durbin’s Resolving Extended Limbo for Immigrant Employees and Families (RELIEF) Act until after the bi-partisan the Fairness for High Skilled Immigrants Act (S.386 Lee-Harris) Bill has Passed.
The Fairness bill (S.386)—legislation which passed the House on July 10, 2019, with 365 votes, including the support of 224 Democratic members of the House of Representatives--currently has 35 Co-sponsors in the Senate including 15 Democratic Senators. The Fairness bill has all 54 Republican Senators agreeing to support the bill via Unanimous consent and has cleared the Democratic hotline for unanimous consent in prior years.
Immigration Voice asks you to refrain from co-sponsoring the RELIEF Act bill at the moment because we believe that the timing of its introduction plainly demonstrates that it is not being offered as a good faith solution to the issue of national origin discrimination in the green card system.
Senator Durbin had no problem being a lead sponsor of the Fairness for High Skilled Immigrants Act (S.1983, in 2012): https://www.congress.gov/bi…/112th-congress/senate-bill/1983
He did not say that the price to be paid in order to end the scourge of national origin immigration system was that Republicans needed to violate their core principles and double or triple the total number of green cards.
Republicans are already on record saying that additional green cards are a non-starter for them. Senator Durbin knows this very well. Therefore, insisting on doubling of tripling the number of green cards in exchange for ending national origin discrimination is simply a creative way for opposing the Fairness bill.
Republicans could equally say they support the bill but want to end different immigration programs at the same time, or, that they want to add a provision ending abortion so that there are more Americans available to fill these jobs. All of these provisions that only one party agrees upon are simply provisions that are being insisted upon in order to cause the Fairness bill to fail.
The Fairness bill (S.386) is the closest to passing it has ever been. Employment-Based immigration is not like the Diversity Lottery where the government picks immigrants and thus seeks to diversify the pool. Employment-Based immigration requires employers to pick immigrants based on the qualifications needed for a particular job. Therefore, the only role that per-country quotas play in this system is to require employers to do what is already illegal under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, which is to take national origin into account when making employment decisions. If an employer knows that hiring a worker from one country means that they will not get that worker for 70 years, they will not hire workers from that country regardless of their qualifications.
What we need is a bill we can agree on, which is the Fairness bill that has already passed the House of Representatives. We do not need more fighting or political posturing on immigration. We will gladly support Senator Durbin’s RELIEF Act after Fairness bill (S.386) passes the Congress. But at the moment, there is no basis for supporting legislation whose sole purpose is to make it more difficult to end national origin discrimination in our immigration system. We are that we cannot change our national origins and the national origins of our children to make them satisfactory to Senator Durbin. If we could, we would. We just want to be known as Americans and nothing else. But unless and until Fairness bill (S.386) passes, we will be known only as foreigners solely because of the latitude and longitude of our birth location—regardless of how many patents we invent, how many patients we save, and how much investment we make in local communities and how many schools awards our kids win.
Please support the Fairness Bill (S.386) and call on all of your colleagues to do so.
