Base salary is salary component which is pay cheqk, plus they offer equity like most companies when you join 120k equitry for 4 yrears , plus based on company performace you will be allocated bonus which starts 10 to 15 %

200k is less if you look at the IT salaries in Bay Area no?

Bro if you are able to get in tech companies no place can beat bay area the exposure , the eco system , the people you work with 

, but average candidate like me who can only afford medum companies as you said texas is best. Schools are wrost in most areas ,

Yes Bay area has many clusters 1) San farnascio city, 2) South bay aka silicon valley (Sunnvale, santaclara, San jose) 3) Pala alto , redwood city , San mateo  4) East bay pleasantgon still catching up ( Workday, Veeva are headquearters there). Just for comparison UPenn and Drexel Medical schools pay 140 k for associate professors here. A good comparable salary I would have thought.
