Karimnagar: BC Welfare and Civil Supplies Minister Gangula Kamalakar, on Tuesday, said the Karimnagar IT Tower, the second biggest after Hyderabad, would be ready by December.

Speaking to reporters at the IT Tower here, Kamalakar said the government had planned for the inauguration during Dasara festival, but it didn’t materialise since some works were delayed due to frequent rains. “The ground and first floors would be ready by November 10, and the entire seven-storeyed building would be ready by December,” he said.

Initially, the plan was to start operations in the tower with at least two IT companies by November 11 or 12, the Minister said and added that it would, however, be difficult for companies to operate business while construction works in other floors were in progress.

The State government, he said, sanctioned the IT Tower to Karimnagar to provide employment to local youth. A total of three acres of land was identified to construct two towers. The building comprising cellar, ground and five floors would have constructed over an area of 6,200 sq ft at a cost of Rs 35 crore. There would be parking space to accommodate 60 cars in the cellar.

At a time, 200 to 250 employees can work on each floor, with 1,000 to 1,200 in each shift and 3,000 to 3,200 in three shifts. A learning centre has also been established on the ground floor, he said.

When asked about the number of companies that would establish their offices in the IT Tower, the Minister said 11 companies had already entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the State government and more firms were willing to open their offices. A number of people from the district settled in USA, Australia and other countries were ready to open their offices in the tower but they were expecting some benefits from the government, Kamalakar said. “The IT Department is preparing a special package to attract IT firms to establish their offices in Karimnagar,” he added.

Companies can start their activities on ‘Plug and Work’ mode since all facilities including power and high speed broadband internet would be provided free of cost in the centrally air-conditioned building.

After the municipal election, a delegation would visit the US, Australia and other countries to invite IT companies to establish their offices in the tower. The Minister said the people of the district would see a transformed Karimangar by 2020 when the ongoing works of cable bridge and Manair river-front project would be completed.

Reacting to the opposition parties’ comments on Smart City works, Kamalakar said the works started recently. “Roads being laid in the town were taken up with the Rs 350 crore sanctioned by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao,” he said.
