Social media -  especially brides have caught on to this.   Once you hire wedding planner, then they work on commissions and keep adding events. 

Also, people have more money and want to spend and enjoy. 

Forget about marriages, in USA I've seen many finding reason to throw a party. If so reason, then do vratam or puja. Spending hundreds of $ on decorations for puja at home 🙂

If you are in USA, then use money for vacations and buying quality stuff for home.
