How? They were in power for the last 5 years there. Maharashtra is not a gateway to TG and AP. They market themselves on their ideology. Yes, few people in TG and AP do have favorable opinion about their ideology. However, it is not as strong as it is in Maharashtra. State elections are a different ball game. They had a natural ally in Shiv Sena, there is no one here. Yes, TDP sided with them, but TDP was a political ally and never an ideological ally.

I don’t know YSRCP was expected to win in 2014, but Jagan underestimated his rivals. It was only a matter of time for BJP to come to power after Babri at the centre.  Maharashtra lo they had some presence-not as big as it is now, but it was playing second fiddle to Shiv Sena for years. Modi’s victory at the centre turned a small party into a big player in MH. They had some favorable votebank there. There isn’t much in AP. It is a state divided by castes. The caste split isn’t right for them. 40% will surely never vote for them. Of the remaining 60%, 30 % are farmers and BJP is not really farmer friendly. The only party it could have replaced is TDP and I doubt it will do that. TDP’s cadre and vote bank is too strong.
