Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister claims that his government is building 5,39,586 houses for the poor in the urban area and 13,06,555 houses in the rural area under the PMAY (Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana) scheme.

Chandrababu Naidu revealed the statistics of the housing scheme in the Assembly session during a discussion about building houses for the poor. He said the AP government needs to complete 18,45,841 houses, but that they plan to complete 19 lakhs houses before 2019 elections.

He also explained that the government is building 9,170 houses with an expenditure of Rs 56 thousand crores for the people affected in the Hudhudh cyclone. These houses are nearing completion and the government is also releasing funds for repairs of houses at a cost of Rs 10,000 per house.

The houses are being constructed under the PMAY scheme of the Government of India to ensure ‘Housing for all by 2022’. This is a credit-linked subsidy scheme by which people can avail subsidised loans.
