Strike effect: TSRTC bus fares go up steeply!

The Telangana government on Monday announced an upward revision of ticket fares of Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) buses with effect from midnight, as part of its efforts to rescue the RTC from deep financial troubles.

As announced earlier, the bus fares have been increased by 20 paise per kilometre. The RTC is expected to net an additional revenue of Rs 750 crore from the increased bus fares.

The minimum fare in the ordinary buses has been hiked from Rs.5 to Rs.10. The maximum fare, which used to be Rs.30 in city and metro express buses has been revised to Rs.35 while minimum and maximum fares in metro deluxe buses are fixed at Rs.15 and Rs.45 respectively.

To avoid change problem with passengers and conductors, the minimum fare in Pallevelugu services are revised from Rs.6 to Rs.10 and the maximum fare has been hiked from Rs.73 to Rs.100.

This apart, fares have also been revised in bus services such as Deluxe, Express, Super Luxury, Garuda, Rajadhani, Vajra and Vennela.

For the night-out and long-distance bus services, which start before 12 am today would allow passengers with old fares.

Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, who held a luncheon meeting with a select group of RTC employees at his Pragati Bhavan camp office on Sunday, announced that his government would allocate Rs 1,000 crore in the coming budget to bring the RTC out of the losses, apart from mobilising additional revenues through increasing the bus fares.
