Padma purana explains actually what happens after death

2-3 days Before Yamadootas, Very fierce Hounds come and move around the body. THey will be waiting for the death of a person to eat their subtle body.

Yamadootas come as soon as the person is dead and they are very ugly looking with tooth similar to tiger popping out of the mouth. Soul due to attachement with this world and family doesn't want to leave body and very scared to go with Yamadootas but it will be dragged out of the body by yamadootas very brutally.

The  journey to yamaloka itself is torturous for the person who did wrong deeds. Person who didn't feed or help others in life the needy will be dragged on thorns without water or food. Greedy people will be tortured in many ways all along the way. At Yamaloka there is a big line of dead and each will given punishments as per their deeds. The punishments are unbearable. People are sent to Naraka lokas or swarga lokas as per their deeds. Both are temporary. after they suffer for long time they will be given a body could be animal or human based on their karma. Human body is very rare to get. Both Swarga and Naraka are not good one has to endeavour to go out of the birth and death cycle and attain moksha and go to vaikuntha loka.

Why does a Soul need food and water....I assume Soul has only emotional and metnal need , attachment...not physical needs like food water and s3x

 Soul has nothing to do with your physical needs. All the suffering is experienced by the subtle body which different from gross body. Gross body is dead but for you to experience the pain subtle body is taken. All living beings have gross and subtle body.

It can feel hungry and thirsty but cannot consume it without gross body. This what the suffering is, you cannot satisfy yourself although you feel hungry, thirsty etc.
