Hyderabad: Numaish is back. With over 1,500 exhibitors, seeking to bury bitter memories of last year’s shocking blaze, the 80th edition of the All India Industrial Exhibition, one of the biggest annual consumer exhibitions in the country, began here on Wednesday.

Popularly known as Numaish, the exhibition, which will go on till February 15, features a variety of products, ranging from dry fruits to handicrafts from Jammu and Kashmir, and handmade garments from across the country. The event also hosts several joy rides, eateries and other entertainment options.

Declaring the exhibition open, Home Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali said the event, which is of one of its kind, attracts exhibitors from all parts of the country. “It is a heritage event of Hyderabad and probably the best exhibition in the country,” he said.

With the co-ordination of the Fire and Rescue Services, Police, Electricity, GHMC and other departments, all precautions have been put in place to ensure a hassle-free and safe exhibition, Mahmood Ali said.

Health Minister and Exhibition Society president Etela Rajender said in the wake of last year’s fire accident, safety measures have been installed at a cost of Rs 3.5 crore. He said the Exhibition Society had made fool-proof arrangements this year to make it a pleasant experience for everyone. “Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao said the exhibition should be modernised and updated as per the needs of the times and made more popular in the country,” Rajendar said.

Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav, Mayor Bonthu Rammohan, Exhibition Society secretary Prabha Shankar and others were present.
