Amaravati Farmers To Boycott Sankranthi Movies?

 

With YS Jagan hell-bent on making Vizag the administrative capital of Andhra Pradesh, hundreds of protesting farmers from Amaravati, who had donated thousands of acres of their agricultural lands for capital construction during Chandrababu rule, and AP Congress leaders are now resorting to pressure tactics to gain support to their fight.

In a startling move to mount pressure on Tollywood biggies, the farmers and Congress leaders have written letters to several Tollywood stars and urged their support to their fight against capital shifting. The leaders also threatened to shut down the theaters this Sankranthi season if film stars don't end their silence on this burning issue.

Ever since Jagan announced his three capitals proposal, thousands of farmers from all the 29 villages in the Amaravati capital region have been vehemently opposing the controversial decision. While women are offering special prayers, farmers have taken to the streets to protest. Several opposition leaders have extended their support to the cause.

On the other hand, nearly Rs 250 crores are riding on the Sankranthi releases like Sarileru Neekevvaru, Ala Vaikuntapurramuloo, Darbar and Entha Manchivaadavuraa. We will have to see if the stars and makers of these movies will respond to the ultimatum in the coming days and ensure a smooth release of their movies.
