Use below pointers when you give credit to some body.

1) Never take credit from somebody to provide that amount.

2) The amount should not be more than 20% of your quarterly income.

3) If the amount is high make sure that it is secured either by talking to his family (if he is hiding from his family means you are in trouble not him)  or making a note or get a personalized check 

4) Inform his family after a month or so when you give credit.. also get the time frame and giving constant reminder is a good thing ... some people call it as cheap but i would say better safer than sorry... if you are afraid that you lose a friendship because of it then it absolutely pointless to keep that friendship.

5) if the amount is big then better to get 20% of it within 6-9 months ..if you won't get it then consider that you are not going to get the amount back.

6) Give credit to people who deserves it not just to show off to prove to somebody that you care the relationship....

One more pointer..don’t give money to others..if you have give in some rare circumstances, give only the amount that you can let go off
