Groom goes ahead with wedding after his father elopes with bride's mother

Surat: The family of the groom, whose father eloped with the mother of the bride, has decided to go ahead with the wedding scheduled on February 13. The parents of the groom and bride had eloped on January 10. 

The uncle of the groom will now be performing all the rituals of the wedding. The wedding of the groom, a resident of Katargam in Surat city, was fixed to a girl from Vejalpore village in Navsari district of Gujarat.

According to a report in The Indian Express, the uncle of the groom said the family doesn't want to cancel the wedding as they have made all preparations and distributed the wedding invitations. 

"We have taken this decision after consulting all our family members. Though the bride's father is confused about this, we are extending all support to him," said a relative of the groom.

The family members of the 48-year-old man, a textile businessman, and the 46-year-old woman have filed a missing person's complaint with the police. A probe into the matter is underway but preliminary inputs suggest that the middle-aged couple knew each other in the past.

The report further suggests that the two were in 'love' in their youth but could not marry each other as the man was from a financially weak background. The woman was from a rich family and her parents refused to marry her with the man around 25 years ago. The two had been neighbours in Katargam and even dated each other for a brief period.
