In Mong Kok on Saturday — one of Hong Kong's busiest districts — people gathered to celebrate the beginning of the Year of the Rat and the fourth anniversary of the 2016 Fishball Revolution, which started off as a mass protest against a crackdown on street vendors and evolved into an independence rally. According to eyewitnesses, police began firing tear gas without warning at Saturday's protest.
