World-class urban park at Gajwel in the making

We have been working to materialise dream of Chief Minister KCR who wanted to have a world-class urban park close to his Constituency Gajwel, says Siddipet DFO

Gajwel: Gajwel Urban Park, which is being developed at a cost of Rs 3.5 crore in 293 acres of forest land adjacent to Gajwel-Wargal road, has been drawing huge crowds during weekends and holidays right before its formal inauguration. Since it is going to be one of the rarest and largest parks in the State, having over 100 tree species, the park has been attracting VIPs, nature lovers and environmentalists.

On January 1, RM Dobriyal (Additional Principal Conservator of Forests-Social Forest), took his friends and relatives to Gajwel park tour from all the way from Hyderabad. Each and every one of them was impressed by seeing such a wonderful park.

 

It is not only senior IFS officer, Dobriyal, but many officials and public representatives from across Telangana State and other parts of the country were also making a visit to have a glimpse of the lung space and to replicate the same in their respective areas.

Since it is having some 33 water bodies, including 5 big-lakes, the DFO observed that it was going to be a home for many birds and herbivores such as wild hare in the days to come because the entire park was having fencing now.

The beauty of the 293-acre park is that the forest department to keep most parts of the area intact like the forest. They will further take up the plantation in the area. They are making some development works in a few acres at the entrance of the park and at camping location including a couple of lakes while keeping the rest of it like a natural forest area.

Divisional Forest Officer, Siddipet, Chepuri Sridhar Rao said that the park had something for all the age group people including the women. While there was an open gym for youth, children playing space, Labyrinth plantation and tent facilities, which is yet to be completed, watchtowers and many others for people of all the ages to explore. To have an overview of the 293-acre park, a couple of watch towers were also being built at various locations.

Saying that the works at the Park is almost nearing completion, DFO, Sridhar said that Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, who is representing from Gajwel Assembly Constituency, wanted to have a world-class urban park close to Gajwel town, which is witnessing a rapid development of late. “We have been just working on to materialise his dream under the guidance a team of experts in the field, he said.

The 14 tent camping facility, which is being built by utilising the funds under RURBAN scheme, will further provide an opportunity to experience life in forest during the night too. The park is not only going to attract the visitors from Gajwel and its viscinity, it is being developed with an view to attract to nature lovers from Hyderabad and other parts of the Telangana. Once the tent camping facility is completed, the DFO said that they would make available the booking facility online to enable the people to book the facility at finger tips.

The park will also have two hotels which will exclusively serve some good Telangana recipes to make the visit more memorable. The DFO further said that they need to construct toilets and besides connecting the park with drinking water facility with an additional budget of Rs 50 lakh.

Once these two works are completed, the park will be thrown open to the public officially. So far, it has been attracting about 700 visitors during weekends since it had got some mouth-to-mouth publicity locally.
