ideas are nothing. I can give you 10 tech product ideas right off the bat (not in data science, but in nanotech because tht's where I work), but to make ideas reality you need networks that are ready to experiment with you.

right now, US (and especially California) is the only place where there's enough money to throw around and experiment with first timers weird ideas. Its a very expensive network to set up, with diminishing returns.

that's why it makes no sense to think in terms of 'countries'. 

For eg. Zoho was among the first to provide office productivity tools online back in 2004 itself when cloud was not popular. It was started by an Chennai born engineer in Silicon Valley, who then traveled to corners of TN to train and hire programmers from there to feed his company because he wanted to cut costs or something.

but it is a Silicon Valley company. Not a chennai company.

ofcourse the founder exposed himself as a Sanghi recently. So fcuk him, sure.

Also companies copy western models right now because everybody else sucks in product development, even if they have the tech for it.

US has a mysterious blend of world class product developers, and a liberal tech transfer program (leeching off public money), that made many professors multi millionaires, off the research funded by public. Not just in pharma, but it is going to cotinue in every aspect of tech.

because private research is behind patent paywalls, even if they catch up with govt spending, they will not generate similar wealth.

India adopted capitalism blindly like morons. There's no way India has a future without govt investment in education first, and then research.

It is lucky right now because most of the software used for data science is opensource. God save India when the ground shifts to nanotech and biotech.

IBM, Intel are not even ready to discuss the 100s of projects they are working on. Let alone opensource them. and even US govt has reduced govt spending on research.

low taxes, eagerness to kill its poor to feed more money to its rich, immigration, and excess of money in the system to invest in vanity projects, very positive approach to life  in general and risk taking in particular. No country comes even close in this.

the world is literally feeding the US. Hawa for the next 100 technologies shall be in the US only. 

other countries may have the research, but don't have the market to test their products like the US does.

Indian institutes are now asked to raise part of their budget on their own. by providing services to industries.

Whatever research you do, the breakout products won't be made in India. Or even in China (may be there's some hope here).

even if you develop your tech solely in indian labs, Indians won't be your primary market.

I think US eagerness to kill its poor to feed its rich is the biggest advantage it has over other western countries.

ofcourse both China, India, and now brazil too are eager now to kill their poor, but it'll just be plain genocide when they do it. and will put away bright people from moving there.

US does it in sophisticated fashion, by creating a darwinian game inside a potential police state, that gives a false sense of superiority for anyone who made it out of the game alive.  After escaping near death in this game, the same morons then become cheerleaders for others in the game.

No other country has the balls to do this. both republicans and democrats sustain this system with this sociopathy.

US is leader only in consumer tech space. Germany Japan are ahead of it in industrial tech products.
