Why indians are sensitive to Ice in water or soft drinks?

Many Asian countries believe if you have cold food you will get cold cough . That’s what my grandparents believed and they never allowed me have ice cubes in water as a kid . 
 

I can have bottled water from refrigerator but never with ice cubes . 
 

Now in office I always mix hot and cold water to bring it to room temperature before drinking. Not because I believe I will cold but I got used to it .
