Steve Smith’s acrobatic fielding on the boundary line saves 5 runs off Quinton De Kock’s shot

Is there anything Steve Smith cannot do on the field? One of the best batsmen in the world right now, the former Australia skipper is also one of the best fielders in the world and he proved it once again on Sunday by pulling off an outrageous effort in the second T20I against South Africa.

The shot from Quinton de Kock was looking set to cross the boundary ropes without any drama and Steve Smith was nowhere in the picture. The shot from the South Africa captain was neither a catch nor even a run-out and thus not many were expecting any drama.

However, Steve Smith had some other plans as he pulled off arguably this year’s best piece of fielding. On the first ball of the sixth over, de Kock blasted the ball from Adam Zampa over Steve Smith. It was a certain six before Steve Smith made a stunning leap into the air, behind the rope and threw the ball back inside with one hand.

“That’s superman … that is absolutely unbelievable Steve Smith,” said one of the surprised commentators before adding: “So many would just give that up because they’ve literally got no chance. If anything, you’ve got one per cent chance. That is out of this world.”

yup exactly....With his batting style/stance you tend to close the face of the bat more often...

resulting in  more leading edges ...
