This is when coronavirus will stop spreading

Herd immunity means that some of the people have enough immunity that the transmission of the virus is restricted. There is modelling and stats to figure out the probability of the restriction depending on how many people develop a resistance.

That is not true for open and isolated systems.

Why isn’t it isolated to wuhan only then? Clearly there are enough people to develop herd immunity to it one would think. We live in an open system but also far away to be considered isolated.

I am sure people in wuhan have developed immunity against this virus more so than the rest of the world. The rest of the world hasn't seen the virus in it's native form yet, enabling the transmission. Most normal people would develop immunity against the virus if they're infected by it. The only risk is for immuno-compromised patients.

So the whole world needs to be affected for herd immunity to kick in.

What is “sufficient” portion of the population?

There is a model to predict this based on the transmission rates, it's usually similar for most viruses.

So transmission rates can make it 100% theoretically then ..

@Catabolite also tell how to develop immunity before the virus defeats us

A normal person should have good immunity. But some things will help....sleep well, get enough rest, drink water, orange juice and multivitamins help.

When people around you will generate enough immunity to ensure the transmission is considerably reduced because of herd immunity. You might be the one who will get immune to coronavirus if you get infected and help others by not transmitting it. I would say roughly 6-9 months. But until then, keep calm and trust your immune system.
