Iran announces 149 new COVID-19 deaths; Germany cases past 10,000

Iran on Thursday announced 149 new deaths due to the novel coronavirus, raising the toll to 1,284. Iran is among the worst-affected countries by the COVID-19 infection. The country is currently facing 18,407 active COVID-19 cases.

Meanwhile, AFP also reported that the cases of the flu-like disease in Germany have soared past 10,000.

FLASH News : India's fourth coronavirus death reported from Punjab

India records 4th death due to COVID-19, say reports

A fourth patient of the novel coronavirus has succumbed to the infection in India, reports said. The victim was reportedly a 70-year-old man in the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar who had travel history with Germany and Italy, India Today reported.

Pak closes Wagha border with India for 2 weeks amid coronavirus scare

Pakistan announced on Thursday to close down Wagha border with India for two weeks as the number of coronavirus cases in the country rose to 341. The interior ministry through a notification said that it closed the key border point with India "for an initial period of two weeks (14 days) with immediate effect". It said the measure was taken to "prevent the spread of Covid-19, in the best interest of both countries."

His sister, who returned from Saudi Arabia on March 11, had also tested positive for coronavirus. He met his sister on March 13 before she was tested positive and then went to the protest site. He's at Lok Nayak Hospital in Delhi. His sister's undergoing treatment at Safdarjung Hospital.

Rajasthan govt postpones all school, colleges, board exams

The Rajasthan government has suspended all the schools, colleges and board exams in the wake of coronavirus outbreak in various parts of the country. Announcing the decision, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said, "We have decided to postpone all school, college and board exams until further notice in view of Coronavirus outbreak. It has been done as part of our efforts to contain the spread of Covid-19."

Chhattisgarh: Section 144 imposed in Raipur

Section 144 of CrPC has been imposed in Raipur in Chhattisgarh, and all other municipal corporation areas in the state to prohibit large gatherings in order to contain the spread of coronavirus, announced Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel.

MEA advises infected Indians abroad to 'stay where they are'

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday said that the Indians who have tested positive for the novel coronavirus abroad should "stay where they are" if they are not at the epicentre. The statement is reportedly in the context of the infected Indians stuck in Iran.

"Indians who have tested positive for COVID-19 in Iran are in proper medical care and recovering," the MEA said, adding, "The primary advice to all Indians abroad is to stay put where they are. We have evacuated 590 people from Iran where the situation is very severe. Indians infected with corona virus in Iran have been segregated and taken care of very well. We believe they will recover and we will bring them back."

No international flights will be allowed to land for 1 week

The Government of India issued an advisory on Thursday saying that no scheduled international commercial passenger flights shall be allowed to land in India from 22 March for one week.
