Legal action likely against suspected COVID-19 patient from Bengaluru who reached Agra: DM

The Agra district administration is likely to take legal action against the suspected coronavirus Karnataka woman who fled from Bengaluru and reached Agra.

"We are thinking of taking legal action against the woman and her family. A message should be sent out, what if another 10 families get affected because of them?" said Prabhu Narayan Singh, District Magistrate Agra on Saturday.

The newly married Karnataka couple had a travel history from Italy. The husband was recently tested positive for COVID-19 after they returned from their honeymoon. After the man showed symptoms of the disease, his wife allegedly fled from Bengaluru and reached Agra on 9 March.

However, refuting the reports of the woman travelling from Bengaluru to Agra, the Karnataka government clarified that the husband concealed that his wife left from Bengaluru to Agra, and not from Mumbai as earlier stated.

Karnataka Medical Education Minister K Sudhakar on Saturday said that the couple reached Bengaluru airport at 9.45 pm and that the wife did not leave the airport and departed to Delhi at 1.40 am the next day and reached at 4.25 am.

From there, she took the 8.10 am Gatimaan Express train to Agra.
