25 more BSF personnel test positive for COVID-19

The number of COVID-19 cases shot up in the Border Security Force (BSF) on Sunday, with 25 more personnel testing positive for the disease, taking the tally in the force to 42, PTI quotes an official as saying. The new cases were reported from a unit of the 126th battalion of the force, deployed in the Jama Masjid and Chandni Mahal areas of the national capital on law-and-order duties under the command of the Delhi Police.
 
"A total of 25 troops from this unit deployed in Delhi tested positive for the disease on Sunday. Six from the unit had tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday," a spokesperson of the border-guarding force said. So far, 42 BSF personnel have been found infected with the coronavirus infection, including some cases from a unit hospital in Delhi's R K Puram and two in Tripura, the spokesperson said.

With 331 fresh infections, Punjab's count surges to 1,102

Pujnab reports 331 new cases, pushing total number of cases over 1,100, ANI quotes the state health department as saying. Out of the total cases,  117 have been cured while 21 others succumbed to the infection and the number of active cases stands at 964. According to a report in The Tribune, Amritsar registered the highest number of COVID-19 cases for second day in a row---the district recorded 75 infections in a span of 24 hours, taking the district tally to 218.

Confirmed cases in India surge to 40,623, toll climbs to 1,306

Total number of COVID-19 positive cases in India rises to 40,263 including 28,070 active cases, 10,887 cured/discharged/migrated and 1,306 deaths, according to the 5 pm update issued by the Union health ministry.

With 35 new cases, count in Jammu and Kashmir climbs to 701

Jammu and Kashmir saw an increase of 35 new cases, pushing the state total to 701. While 34 of the new cases were reported from Kashmir division, one was found in the Jammu division. 287 persons have recovered while eight have died due to the disease till date, taking the number of active cases to 406, said the media bulletin issued by the UT.

Karnataka reports 13 new cases, total rises to 614

13 new corona virus cases were reported in Karnataka in the last 24 hours, said a bulletin released by the state health department. Total number of cases in the state stands at 614, including 25 deaths and 293 discharges, it said. The highest number of cases (149) and deaths (six) have been reported from the Bengaluru Urban district.

Gujarat reports highest single-day spike in deaths

 
Gujarat on Sunday reported 374 new COVID-19 cases and 28 deaths, which is the highest single-day increase in deaths so far, a Health department official said. With this, the overall number of the corona virus positive cases mounted to 5,428 and the death toll to 290. At 274, Ahmedabad accounted for the highest number of the new cases, followed by Surat and Vadodara at 25 each. 146 patients were discharged, taking the total number of recovered patients in the state to 1,042.

Uttar Pradesh has reported 139 fresh corona virus cases on Sunday, with which, its total tally has mounted to 2,645.

There were 27 COVID-related deaths in the state today. Out of these,

21 deaths were recorded in Mumbai,

Lab testing

Out of 1,70,139 laboratory samples, 1,56,078 were negative and 12,974 have been tested positive for corona virus until today.

Discharged details

2115 patients have been discharged till date after full recovery.

Quarantine details

Currently, 1,81,382 people are in home quarantine and 13,158 people are in institutional quarantine.

 

Maharashtra count nears 13,000

678 new Covid-19 cases were reported today in Maharashtra , taking the state tally to 12,974. 27 people died of the disease, taking the death count to 548, according ot a bulletin issued by the state health department. 115 persons were discharged following their recovery, taking the total number of recovered persons int he state to 2,115. Mumbai has reported the highest number of cases (8,800) and 343 deaths.

UK Covid-19 death toll rises by 315 to reach 28,446

The death toll from the novel corona virus in UK hospitals, care homes and the wider community rose by 315 to hit 28,446 on Sunday, the latest government figures revealed.

The latest figures indicate that the UK’s toll is now edging closer to that in Italy, one of the worst hit countries in the pandemic where the figure stands at 28,710 this week.

Madhya Pradesh now has 2,837 confirmed cases

Madhya Pradesh reported 49 positive  and six deaths on Sunday, taking the state total to 2,837, according to a bulletin released by the state health department. Of these, 1568 cases have been reported in Indore and 532 in Bhopal. 156 persons have died in the state so far while 798 have recovered.
