1,162 COVID-19 cases, 11 deaths reported in Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu reported the highest spike in corona virus cases on Monday with 1,162 new cases with 11 deaths, taking the total number of cases to 23,495 in the state. The state's toll rose to 184.

Reports said that this is the second time that over 1,000 COVID-19 cases have been reported in a day in Tamil Nadu. The previous highest single-day spike of 1,149 cases was recorded on Sunday, 31 May,

Kerala reports 57 new COVID-19 cases today

Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that 57 people have tested positive for corona virus in the state on Monday, and one death has also been reported.

 

Kerala CM says gatherings cannot be allowed amid spike in cases

Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that with a rise in corona virus cases in the state, the state government will not be able to allow mass gatherings during weddings and other such events.

He added that the Guruvayoor temple can allow weddings with only 50 people, and wedding halls can open but with not more than 50 people.

The lock down will continue in containment zones in the state. 

Inter-district bus service can be allowed in a restricted manner, he said, adding that hand sanitisers will be provided to travellers.

Recovery rate in Maharashtra rises to 43.35% in May

The recovery rate from the coronavirus pandemic in Maharashtra improved to 43.35 percent in the month of May, reports said. Meanwhile, the state's doubling rate has also improved. It is 17.5 days now, as compared to 11 days earlier, reports said.

Delhi’s COVID-19 case count rises to 20,834, with 990 new cases in the last 24 hrs; total death toll 523, the state health department said.

China reports 15 new cases; Wuhan registers zero asymptomatic case for first time

China has reported 15 new coronavirus cases while Wuhan, the epicentre of the COVID-19, where over nine million people have been tested in the last few weeks has not registered any asymptomatic case for the first time, the health authority said on Tuesday.

According to China's National Health Commission (NHC), five imported cases and 10 asymptomatic cases were reported in the country on Monday. So far, 371 asymptomatic cases, including 39 from overseas, were still under medical observation, it said.

India reports 8,171 new cases, 204 deaths in past 24 hours

India reports 8,171 new cases in 24 hours, taking the overall tally to 1,98,706. As many as 204 more deaths were also reported in this period, taking the overall toll to 5,598, according to the latest update by the health ministry.

 

Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu remain worst-hit

India has 97,581 active cases, while 95,526 people have recovered. Maharashtra continues to be the worst-affected state, with 70,013 cases and 2,362 deaths. This is followed by Tamil Nadu, which has 23,495 cases and 184 deaths, and Delhi, with 20,834 cases and 523 deaths.

Andhra Pradesh reports 3,791 COVID-19 cases

On Tuesday, 115 more people tested positive for the novel coronavirus in Andhra Pradesh taking the state's overall count to 3,791.

Global COVID-19 cases now at 62.6 lakh

Total confirmed cases of COVID-19 across the world stand at 62.6 lakh, according to the Johns Hopkins University CSSE. This figure includes COVID-19 patients who have recovered and the overall global death toll which stands at 3.75 lakh.

With over 17.8 lakh reported cases till date, the United States is the worst-affected country in the world. The US is followed by Brazil, Russia, the United Kingdom and Spain.

Chinese doctor succumbs to COVID-19 after 4 months of treatment

A state media outlet says a Chinese doctor has died from COVID-19 after four months of treatment. Internet news site The Paper said word of Hu Weifeng's death was received from a hospital source Tuesday morning. If confirmed, it would mark the first reported fatality from the disease in China in weeks.

No new deaths were registered Tuesday by the central government's National Health Commission, whose reports cover events occurring over the previous 24 hours.

86 new COVID-19 cases reported in Kerala today

Kerala on Tuesday reported 86 new cases of corona virus, The Indian Express reported. The number of active cases in the state rose to 774. The report also said that the toll rose with the death of a 77-year-old in Trivandrum due to COVID-19.

A total of 41,03,233 samples have been tested till now, of which 1,37,158 samples have been tested in the last 24 hours, says ICMR according to ANI.

With 72,300 confirmed novel corona virus cases, Maharashtra remains the worst-affected state in the country. According to the latest data from the Union Health Ministry, the state has reported 2,465 COVID-19 deaths so far. As many as 31,333 patients have recovered.

Meanwhile, with 24,586 confirmed novel corona virus cases, Tamil Nadu remains the second most-affected state in the country. According to the latest data from the Union Health Ministry, the state has reported 197 COVID-19 deaths so far. As many as 13,706 patients have recovered.

India reports 8,909 new COVID-19 cases and 217 deaths in the last 24 hours. The total number of cases in the country now at 207,615 including 101,497 active cases, 100,303 cured/discharged/migrated and 5,815 deaths, said Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

India’s total number of infections rises to 207,615, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The toll has risen to 5,815. As many as 1,00,303 COVID-19 patients have been cured and discharged so far, with  1,01,497 active cases.
