Cases are growing at an alarming pace in Brazil, which is the second worst-hit country after US in terms of registered cases. Ignoring the sharp spike in cases, President Bolsonaro has pressured local governments to lift restrictions to control the spread of the deadly virus. Kool_SRG Posted July 17, 2020 Author Report Share Posted July 17, 2020 US sees sharpest single-day rise of 77,000 corona virus cases The United States, which is the worst-affected country in the world with over 3.5 million cases, has reported more than 77,217 new cases in last 24 hours. It also reported 969 deaths — the biggest jump since June 10. Florida, Carolina and Texas have all reported big single-day spikes in cases. As of now, more than 1.38 lakh Americans have died after they tested positive for the virus. The spike of over 77,000 cases surpasses the previous record set on Friday when cases rose by 69,070. The fingerprick tests, which can tell within 20 minutes if a person has ever been exposed to the coronavirus, were found to be 98.6% accurate in secret human trials held in June, the newspaper reported. Kool_SRG Posted July 18, 2020 Author Report Share Posted July 18, 2020 China reports 22 new cases, including 16 in Xinjiang Urumqi, the capital of China’s far western region of Xinjiang, said it has launched emergency response plan after the city reported 16 new coronavirus cases on Friday. The regional government said all recent new infections and asymptomatic cases reported in the autonomous region were in Urumqi,it said on its official Weibo account on Saturday. Xinjiang, home to most of China’s Uighur ethnic minority, has so far mostly avoided the worst of the coronavirus pandemic which erupted in the central Chinese city of Wuhan late last year. As of 17 July, the region reported a total of 17 coronavirus cases, plus 11 asymptomatic cases. Another 269 people were under medical observation, according to the regional health commission. The university's tally as of Saturday night says the United States tops the list with 140,103 deaths. It is followed by 78,772 fatalities in Brazil and 45,358 in the United Kingdom. The number of confirmed infections worldwide has passed 14.2 million, out of which 3.7 million are in the United States. There are over 2 million in Brazil and more than 1 million in India.
