Three foreign nationals test positive

Three foreign nationals under observation in Tamil Nadu have testes positive for coronavirus, taking the tally in the state to six, PTI quotes Health Minister C Vijaya Baskar as saying.

 

"All 6 positive cases are imported cases from different regions with travel histories and not community transmitted. New cases were already quarantined and in our radar.Screening is more intensified at all ports of arrival including at railway stations,domestic arrivals  and interstate borders," he said.

'Near total' lockdown in 5 Odisha districts, 8 other towns

 A day before the nationwide 'Janata curfew', the Odisha government announced a "near total" shutdown in five districts and eight other prominent towns for a week to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus pandemic. It will come into effect from Sunday morning, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said in a video message.

 

The districts that will observe near-total lockdown are Khurda, Ganjam, Cuttack, Kendrapara and Angul, while the towns include Puri, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Balasore, Rourkela, Bhadrak, Jajpur Road and Jajpur, Patnaik said. These districts and towns were identified as over 3,000 residents have returned to these places from abroad in the past few days. "The 4.5-crore people are my family. Please cooperate to defeat the virus. I have asked the police to take stern action against violators," PTI quotes Patnaik as saying.

Coronavirus: Over 500 cases filed in Maharashtra for violations

Around 540 offences have been registered in Maharashtra for violating orders in place to stop the spread of novel coronavirus, officials said on Saturday. The violations include not observing lockdown, hiding or falsifying travel history, fleeing home quarantine, spreading rumours about the infection and advertising products with the aim of profiting from the outbreak, they said.
