Two more cases reported in Gujarat

Two more COVID19 positive cases were detected in Gujarat, reports ANI. A 25-year-old man from Gandhinagar got infected through local transmission, while a 65-year-old man from Gir Somnath had recently travlelled to Saudi Arabia. The total number of positive cases in the state  has reached 55, ANI quotes the state health department as saying.

Paramilitary forces report 1st Covid-19 cases: BSF officer, CISF jawan test positive

The 57-year-old BSF officer is posted at the forces' officers training academy in Takenpur area of Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh.

A Border Security Force (BSF) officer and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) jawan tested positive for novel coronavirus on Saturday, first cases of the highly contagious infection in the paramilitary forces, officials said.

The 57-year-old BSF officer is posted at the forces' officers training academy in Takenpur area of Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh.

Officials said he is suspected to have been infected from a family member who recently returned from the United Kingdom.

The second-in-command rank officer has been admitted to a local hospital, an official said, adding that over two dozen BSF personnel who came in contact with him have been sent to quarantine.

The CISF head constable who has tested positive for novel coronavirus is posted at the Mumbai international airport.

The jawan has been admitted to a local hospital.

He might have got infected during his duty at the busy airport in the western metropolis, they said.

The about 10 lakh personnel strong paramilitary forces, also called the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), are deployed for rendering a variety of internal security duties under the command of the Minister of Home Affairs (MHA).

Italy coronavirus deaths rise by 889 in a day to 10,023

The death toll from an outbreak of coronavirus in Italy has surged by 889, the Civil Protection Agency said on Saturday, the second highest daily tally since the epidemic emerged on Feb. 21.

Total fatalities in Italy have reached 10,023, by far the highest of any country in the world. (Reuters)

Considering enforceable quarantine in NYC Metro Area: Trump

US President Donald Trump on Saturday said that he is considering an enforceable quarantine "maybe for a short period of time" in the New York City Metro as the number of the novel coronavirus cases spiked in the area.

The New York City Metro Area comprises of New York City, New Jersey and Connecticut. More than 52,00 people have been infected with coronavirus in New York City alone and the number of such cases in neighbouring New Jersey has suddenly surged to nearly 9,000. (PTI)

Telangana reported its first Covid-19 death on Saturday, taking the total number of deaths in India to 23. A 74-year-old with travel history to Delhi tested positive for Covid-19 on Saturday after he died at a private hospital in Telangana earlier.

A family of four, who had also visited Delhi, tested positive for the novel coronavirus on Saturday. Besides, four medics deployed at RGI Airport in Hyderabad had also reportedly contracted the virus.

Four health personnel, who screened passengers at Hyderabad airport, test positive

Four health personnel, who were deployed at Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) for screening passengers who returned from foreign countries, tested positive for COVID-19 in Telangana, reported The News Minute. 

Speaking to reporters, Telangana Health Minister Eatala Rajender said that the health workers are now in isolation wards and are undergoing treatment. A family member of one of the affected persons also contracted the virus, the minister said.

COVID patient dies in Ahmedabad, taking state's toll to five

A 45-year-old COVID-19 patient died in Ahmedabad on Sunday morning, taking the total number of deaths due to coronavirus in the state to five, the health department said. The man was also suffering from diabetes, it said.

With this, the number of deaths due to coronavirus in Ahmedabad has gone up to three.

67-yr-old dies of COVID in Srinagar, second person to succumb to virus in Kashmir

A 67-year-old COVID-19 patient passed away in Srinagar’s Chest Disease Hospital on Sunday morning, the second person to die of the coronavirus disease in Kashmir.

"Sad start to the day. Unfortunate demise of a coronavirus patient in Srinagar this morning,” Jammu and Kashmir spokesperson Rohit Kansal tweeted.

The death came a day after the union terroritory witnessed 13 new cases with 33 people testing positive for the infection so far.

Any donation to PM-CARES fund to qualify as CSR expenditure: Corporate affairs ministry 

The Ministry of Corporate Affairs on Saturday said any contribution made to PM-CARES emergency situation relief fund shall qualify as CSR expenditure under the Companies Act 2013. 

The press release further stated that contribution to any fund set up by the Centre for socio-economic development and relief qualifies as CSR fund.

Five COVID-19 patients in Pimpri-Chinchwad test negative in repeat samples 

Five more COVID-19 patients from twin cities of Pimpri-Chinchwad near Pune are set to be discharged from hospital after they tested negative twice in latest tests, an official said.

Three patients, who tested negative for the virus twice after 14-day isolation, were discharged in Pimpri- Chinchwad on Friday.

"The repeat samples of five more COVID-19 patients have tested negative and they will be discharged from the hospital," an official from local municipal corporation''s health department said.

There are 36 confirmed cases reported from Pune while, Pimpri-Chinchwad has so far recorded 12 cases.

Twelve new cases emerge in Maharashtra, tally up to 193

The total number of COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra has gone up to 193 with 12 more people testing positive for coronavirus, a health official said on Sunday.

Of the 12 new patients, five have been reported from Pune, four from Mumbai and one each from Sangli, Jalgaon and Nagpur, the official said.

Currently, Mumbai is leading in the number of positive cases in the state with 77 people being infected.

Canadian PM's wife recovers from COVID-19

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's wife said Saturday that she has recovered from being ill from COVID-19 disease caused by the novel coronavirus.

"I am feeling so much better," Sophie Gregoire Trudeau said in a statement on social media. She said she received the clearance from her doctor and Ottawa Public Health.

Trudeau's office announced on 12 March 12 that she had tested positive after she fell ill upon returning from a trip to London.

The prime minister and his family have been in self isolation at home since then. He and their three children didn't show symptoms.

Family of five test positive in Meerut

An individual who along with his four family members returned from Maharashtra's Amravati to Meerut in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday has tested positive for the novel coronavirus, ANI reported. All four members have also contracted the disease.

Africa registers 2,650 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 49 deaths: WHO chief

Coronavirus has now spread to dozens of countries in Africa, with 2,650 infected and 49 dead, the head of the World Health Organization (WHO) said on Saturday.

The WHO stands ready to support all countries in the fight against the virus, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO director-general, said on Twitter.

"Countries with weaker health systems must act aggressively to contain spread among early cases and prevent community transmission," he said.

Illinois infant among COVID-19 deaths, marks first in US 

An infant has died from the novel coronavirus, officials in the state of Illinois said on Saturday, marking an extremely rare case of juvenile death in the global pandemic.

At a news conference, Governor JB Pritzker said "an infant" was among the fatalities linked to the new coronavirus over the previous 24 hours.

The state Department of Public Health said the child who died in Chicago was younger than one year old and had tested positive for COVID-19.

"There has never before been a death associated with COVID-19 in an infant," the department's director Ngozi Ezike said in a statement.
