A Delhi court on Friday sentenced Kuldeep Singh Sengar and six other convicts to 10 years in prison for murder of Unnao rape survivor’s father, reported news agency ANI.

The court also ordered Sengar and his brother Jai Deep alias Atul Singh Sengar to pay Rs 10 lakh each as compensation to the family.

The court had on Wednesday convicted seven persons, including Sengar, his brother and two policemen, for the death of the father of a woman whom Sengar raped in June 2017.

Sengar, was sent to jail in December 2019 by the Tis Hazari district court for the “remainder of his natural biological life” for raping the woman when she was a minor. He was disqualified from the Uttar Pradesh assembly last month.

Sengar, his brother and three aides were convicted for culpable homicide not amounting to murder (Section 304), criminal conspiracy (120B), wrongful restraint (341), voluntarily causing hurt (323) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of arms act.

Policemen Ashok Singh Bhadauria and KP Singh were also convicted for registering a false complaint (Sections 211 and 218) against the father, as well as for assaulting him in judicial custody.

Sengar’s aides thrashed the survivor’s father and his co-worker on April 3, 2018, in Unnao, where he had gone to attend a hearing in the rape case. The survivor’s father died in the jail hospital five days later.

Vistara bans Kunal Karma from flying till April 27 for heckling journalist on IndiGo flight

Stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra on Friday tweeted that he has been banned by airline Vistara, more than two months after he was grounded by four other airlines for heckling TV journalist Arnab Goswami on an IndiGo flight.

Air vistara has also banned me now till the 27th April, following orders like they show... at a time where no one can fly, all I want to say is, neither am I sorry nor am I surprised, nor am I suffering...

Kamra was banned from flying by four airlines on January 28, after he tweeted a 111-second video that showed him heckling Goswami on a Mumbai-Lucknow flight. Neither the journalist nor the pilot had lodged a formal complaint against Kamra. But once the video was circulated, there were calls for action against the comedian.

IndiGo specified a six-month period while other airlines — Air India, Spicejet and GoAir — imposed an indefinite ban on him.

Aviation regulator, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on February 27 told the Delhi High Court that IndiGo airline’s flying ban imposed on Kamra in January had been reduced to three months.

Kamra had approached the aviation regulator against the flight ban, asserting that the airline hadn’t gone by the rulebook in his case. He pointed out that Captain Rohit Mateti, the pilot who was incharge of the flight, hadn’t complained against him as should have been done under aviation rules relating to unruly passengers.

Justice Navin Chawla had pulled up the regulator at the last hearing for its tweet backing the airline’s decision to impose the flight ban and refusing to act on Kunal Kamra’s representation to him. The judge told the regulator that once Kamra had lodged a complaint before the DGCA, claiming violation of Civil Aviation Rules by the airlines, the regulator could not say it would not look into it.

After the court was informed about the decision to reduce the duration of the flight ban, the judge disposed of Kunal Kamra’s petition but gave him the right to come back with a fresh plea if the regulator did not take a call on his representation within the next two months.

In a video clip posted by Kamra in January, he was seen asking the journalist if he is a “coward or a journalist”. While Goswami can be seen sitting in the plane and watching something on his laptop with his earphones plugged in, Kamara continued to troll him.

The Delhi Assembly passed a resolution on Friday against the National Population Register and the National Register of Citizens.

At the one-day special session, which was held to discuss the NPR and the NRC, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal requested the Centre to withdraw them.

“Me, my wife, my entire cabinet don’t have birth certificates to prove citizenship. Will we be sent to detention centres?” Kejriwal asked.

The chief minister challenged Union ministers to show whether they had birth certificates issued by the government.

In the Assembly, Kejriwal asked the MLAs to raise their hands if they had birth certificates, following which only nine legislators in the 70-member House raised their hands.

“Sixty-one members of the House do not have birth certificates,” he said. “Will they be sent to detention centres?”

Coronavirus outbreak: Delhi invokes provisions of 123-year-old epidemic diseases act

Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Friday invoked the Delhi Epidemic Disease COVID-19 Regulations, 2020, which aims at containing the spread of coronavirus in the national capital, ANI reported.

This comes after the Centre’s decision on Wednesday to ask the state governments to invoke the Epidemics Diseases Act, 1897, which gives officials at state levels powers to take extraordinary steps to combat an outbreak.

“Action will be taken against any suspect/confirmed case if they refuse to take measures for prevention/treatment,” it read, according to ANI.

There are six confirmed cases of coronavirus as of Friday. India reported its first death from the virus late on Thursday, and new cases continued to be on the rise with 75 people who have been affected so far.

The regulation was the latest step taken to ramp up efforts to stop the spread of coronavirus in the Capital after the Delhi government said earlier in the day that Indian Premier League (IPL) matches scheduled in the Capital won’t be held and no sports event will be allowed.

Deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia also said no seminars, conferences or any big event beyond 200 people will be allowed in Delhi.

Cinema theatres have already been closed till March 31. The Delhi government has also made it mandatory for all offices, shopping malls and other public spaces to be disinfected every day.

Before Delhi, Karnataka and Haryana have notified the regulations under the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897.

India suspends cross-border trains, buses till April 15 as coronavirus cases touch 81

To check the spread of coronavirus, the Indian government has also decided to inspect international traffic through land immigration checkposts. “We have 37 such checkposts and we will allow traffic through 19 of them from midnight tomorrow,” an official said.

India on Friday announced that all Indo-Bangladesh passenger trains and buses will remain suspended till April 15 and only four Indo-Nepal border checkposts would remain operational as the number of coronavirus positive cases in the country climbed to 81.

“Indo-Bangladesh passenger buses and trains will remain suspended till April 15. Along the Indo-Nepal border, four checkposts will remain operational. For citizens of Bhutan and Nepal, visa-free entry to the country will continue,” Anil Malik, an official of the Ministry of Home Affairs said.

To check the spread of coronavirus, the Indian government has also decided to inspect international traffic through land immigration checkposts. “We have 37 such checkposts and we will allow traffic through 19 of them from midnight tomorrow,” he said.

Human traffic will be allowed in Mankachhar in Assam, Raxaul (Indo-Nepal border), Mizoram, Indo-Myanmar border, Agartala (Indo-Bangladesh), Banbasa (Uttarakhand, Indo-Nepal) and Chadarbandha (West Bengal, Indo-Bangladesh border), according to ministry officials.

Reiterating that the outbreak of coronavirus in the country is not an epidemic, health ministry officials said 124 evacuees from Japan and 112 evacuees from China are being discharged from Friday onwards after having tested negative for coronavirus in the second round of tests.

The Indian government has brought 42,296 passengers under community surveillance, out of which 2,559 were symptomatic and 522 hospitalized including 17 foreign nationals, according to a health ministry official.

“Contact tracing of these cases is being actively pursued. So far, this has led to identification of more than 4,000 contacts who have also been put under surveillance,” the official said.

On the Epidemic Act being invoked by the Centre, Lav Agarwal, Joint Secretary, Health Ministry said, “It is important to understand that it is not a health emergency. We are trying to support the initiative taken by several states in terms of managing the situation.”

Wow. Justice in India a big joke. Victim was raped multiple times, her father was falsly arrested and beaten leading to his death. And then planned an accident by colliding the car by a truck with blackned number plate....leading to death of two family members and injuries to the viticm and others. Yet this guy got 10 years sentence.

In August 2019, after facing massive public and political outrage, the state and the Centre led BJP government finally expelled him from the party.[23] The suspension and later expulsion did not automatically disqualify him

pity on u who still support BJP
