Nirbhaya convicts' lawyer files fresh plea in SC challenging rejection of Pawan Gupta's mercy plea by President. The four convicts, accused of raping and murdering a 23-year-old physiotherapy intern in a moving bus in south Delhi on December 2012, are set to be hanged on Friday at 5.30 am.

Six people, including the four convicts and a juvenile, were named as accused in the heinous crime. Ram Singh, the sixth accused, allegedly committed suicide in the Tihar Jail days after the trial began in the case.

SC likely to hear case at 2.30 am

After Nirbhaya convict Pawan Gupta's lawyer filed a fresh plea in SC challenging rejection of mercy plea by President, the top court is likely to hear the matter at 2.30 am on Friday.

The move comes hours ahead of the hanging of the four Nirbhaya convicts which is scheduled at 5.30 am on Friday.
