"Need Of The Hour": Ratan Tata Commits 500 Crores To Fight COVID-19

The number of COVID-19 cases climbed to 873 in India on Saturday with the number of deaths rising to 19, according to the Union Health Ministry.

New Delhi: 

Tata Trusts today committed Rs 500 crore to fight COVID-19 disease, which it noted was one of the "toughest challenges the human race will face". India saw the highest jump in coronavirus or COVID-19 cases today with 194 patients testing positive for the highly contagious illness in different parts of the country. The total is now 918, which includes 19 deaths, according to the Union Health Ministry.

The funds will be used for Personal Protective Equipment for the medical personnel on the frontlines, respiratory systems for treating increasing cases, testing kits to increase per capita testing, setting up modular treatment facilities for infected patients, knowledge management and training of health workers and the general public, Ratan Tata, Chairman of Tata Trusts, said.

"The COVID 19 crisis is one of the toughest challenges we will face as a race. The Tata Trusts and the Tata group companies have in the past risen to the needs of the nation. At this moment, the need of the hour is greater than any other time," he tweeted.

Meanwhile, Tata Sons also announced an an additional support of Rs 1,000 crore towards Covid-19 and related activities. "We will work together with the Tata Trusts and our Chairman Emeritus Mr. Tata would be fully supporting their initiatives, and work in a collaborative manner to bring the full expertise of the group" a statement said.

ఈనాడు, దిల్లీ: కరోనా వైరస్‌ కారణంగా దేశం తీవ్ర ఇబ్బందులు ఎదుర్కొంటున్న తరుణంలో టాటా సంస్థ తన విశాల హృదయాన్ని చాటుకుంది. ఆ మహమ్మారిపై పోరు కోసం రూ.1500 కోట్ల భూరి విరాళాన్ని ప్రకటించింది. ప్రస్తుత సంక్షోభ సమయంలో దేశ ప్రజల ఆరోగ్యం కోసం టాటా ట్రస్ట్‌ తరఫున రూ.500 కోట్లు, టాటా సన్స్‌ సంస్థ తరఫున రూ.వెయ్యి కోట్లు ఖర్చు పెట్టబోతున్నట్లు ఆ సంస్థల ఛైర్మన్‌లు రతన్‌ టాటా, ఎన్‌.చంద్రశేఖర్‌లు వేర్వేరు ప్రకటనల్లో వెల్లడించారు. ‘‘అత్యంత కఠినమైన సవాల్‌ను మానవాళి ఎదుర్కొంటోంది. ఈ సంక్షోభ సమయంలో కొవిడ్‌-19పై పోరాటానికి అత్యవసర వనరులను సమకూర్చాల్సి ఉంది. వైరస్‌ ప్రభావానికి గురైన అన్ని వర్గాలను ఆదుకోవడానికి టాటా ట్రస్టు కట్టుబడి ఉంది. రోగులకు ముందుండి సేవలు అందిస్తున్న వైద్య సిబ్బందికి వ్యక్తిగత రక్షణ కవచాలు, నానాటికీ పెరుగుతున్న రోగులకు కృత్రిమ శ్వాస అందించి తగిన చికిత్స చేయడానికి అవసరమైన పరికరాలు, పరీక్షల సంఖ్య పెంచడానికి అనువైన టెస్టింగ్‌ కిట్లు, రోగులకు ఆధునిక సౌకర్యాలు అందించడానికి, సాధారణ ప్రజలు, ఆరోగ్య కార్యకర్తలకు అవసరమైన అవగాహన కల్పించడానికి రూ.500 కోట్లు ఖర్చుపెట్టడానికి సిద్ధంగా ఉన్నాం’’ అని రతన్‌ టాటా తన ప్రకటనలో స్పష్టంచేశారు.  ఆ తర్వాత టాటా సన్స్‌ ఛైర్మన్‌ ఎన్‌.చంద్రశేఖరన్‌ మరో ప్రకటనలో.. ‘‘కరోనా వైరస్‌ నియంత్రణ కోసం టాటా ట్రస్టు ఖర్చు చేసే రూ.500 కోట్లకు అదనంగా తమ సంస్థ తరఫున రూ.వెయ్యి కోట్లు ఖర్చుచేయడానికి సిద్ధంగా ఉన్నాం. ఈ విషయంలో టాటా ట్రస్టుతో కలిసి పని చేస్తాం. మా మార్గదర్శి రతన్‌ టాటా చేపట్టే కార్యక్రమాలకు పూర్తి మద్దతివ్వడంతో పాటు, ఆయనతో కలిసి గ్రూప్‌నకు సంబంధించిన మొత్తం నైపుణ్యాన్ని రంగరించి సేవలందిస్తాం’’ అని ప్రకటించారు. టాటా ట్రస్టు ప్రకటించిన అంశాలకు తోడు, తాము అవసరమైన సంఖ్యలో వెంటిలేటర్లు సమకూరుస్తామని చెప్పారు. త్వరలో వీటిని భారత్‌లో తయారు చేస్తామని ప్రకటించారు.
