Researchers at Harvard Medical School found the coronavirus can attack certain cells in the nose, which could explain why people with the virus can experience loss of smell and taste, Bloomberg reported. The study found that proteins in cells at the back of the nose have a shape the virus can target. The researchers noted increasing evidence that loss of smell may be a symptom of COVID-19. The American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery last week recommended that loss of smell be added to the list of symptoms used to screen people for COVID-19.
