Dollar rate kuda perugutondi kadaa.. petrol taxes and excise (liquor) taxes are the main income for the state and central governments.. if they reduce the prices, they get less taxes..

Okay. So, this is how it works..

The rate what you see or displayed on petrol pumps is not the rate which is taken into consideration while deciding the retail rate of petrol/diesel.

When ever we buy a tanker from open market, say $50/barrel, use transfer pricing to determine the exact price.

Add the shipping cost, insurance cost, landing cost at the terminal, storage, refining, then distribution to dealers and then retailers, add 10% mark up at every stage and then add state and central taxes to the price and then you will get a figure which will be pretty convincing.

And cost is determined on fixed purchase price for 14 days and reviewed on 15th day. For example, if price of the barrel changes from $50 to $60 in one fortnight, it’s effect on end consumers will be felt about a 40-50 days later.
