Simon Property, the biggest US mall owner, has furloughed ~30% of its workforce, including folks at HQ. There were also permanent layoffs. The commercial real estate industry will suffer along with retailers. Landlords, such as Simon, are grappling with the fact that countless retailers and restaurants, with their stores temporarily shut, will not be able to pay April rent.
