In a first for South Korea, former North Korean diplomat Thae Yong-ho has won a parliamentary seat in the Gangnam district of Seoul. Since defecting from the reclusive state with his family in 2016, Thae has used his platform to campaign for the human rights of North Koreans and denounce Kim Jong-un's regime.
