V6 reporter booked for reporting false news on coronavirus

Nirmal: A stringer of a TV news channel was booked for allegedly telecasting a news item giving false information on Covid-19 here on Saturday.

Nirmal Inspector John Diwakar said that the accused stringer was Venugopal belonging to V6 channel and resident of Nirmal town.

A case was booked against Venugopal under Section 505, Clause 1 and B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 54 of National Disaster Management Act, 2005, based on a complaint received from Nirmal district public relations officer Md Kaleem on Friday evening. Investigations were taken up.

In the news item, Venugopal was accused of reporting that the district Collector Md Musharraf Ali and many other district officials had moved with a community elder who tested positive for coronavirus and that the officials were likely to subjected to Covid-19 tests. The officials denied moving with a covid-19 positive person, it was stated.
