Herd immunity will work in countries where there are adequate ICU beds and ventilators. US lo it will work because it has enough resources. Mostly from May all the states will relax their rules, people will follow social distancing and the elders and people with health issues will stay home.. So the economy will slowly return to some normalcy..

India lo it will not work. There are too many people and even if 0.01% of the population gets sick, that's  1.3 crore people and Indian government hospitals can't even treat 10% of these people.. So a majority of them will die..

nag-smiling-o_zpsd23b83a3.gif?1367267799 US hospitals could need as many as half a million additional ventilators during the pandemic, according to the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security, and demand for them has soared in US intensive care units as coronavirus patients flood in.

US has enough resource..

with social distancing and elderly and pre-existing cond people staying home and enough precautions not everyone will get infected at the same time..

You are overestimating it. That's the problem. Antibody tests in New York indicated that around 15% of the population is already infected which brings the mortality rate to 0.3%
