These amounts were put in place nearly two decades ago, and there has been no amendment to the Act since then. What this would mean is that the victims of the Vizag gas leak will also be liable for the amounts mentioned above, which given the current cost of living, are very less. Medical bills alone, experts say, could run into much higher amounts

However, this does not mean that victims of the accident cannot get more than Rs 25,000 in case of loss of life and Rs 12,500 in case of an injury. How much the company will end up paying will be based on the total number of deaths and injuries officially reported, and the amounts drawn up by lawyers of the victims. For additional compensation, victims will have to sue the company and approach the courts to claim a higher compensation, and if the courts order a higher compensation, LG will have to pay up. 

However, experts say that given the current pandemic, it is unknown when courts will open, and these legal procedures sometimes take years.

ఏపీ పోలీసలు ఇన్ని రోజులు ప్రశ్నించిన వారి పైనా, ప్రత్యర్ధి పార్టీ వారి పైనా కేసులు పెట్టి అరెస్టులు చేయడమే ధ్యేయంగా పనిచేశారు. ఇప్పుడు మాత్రం తప్పు చేసిన వాళ్లని అరెస్ట్ చేయడం మీ ప్రాధాన్యత కాదు.. అని చెప్పారు. ఈ మాట చెప్పిందో ఎవరో కాదు. స్వయంగా డీజీపీ గౌతమ్ సవాంగ్ ఈ వ్యాఖ్యచేశారు.

డీజీపీ చేసిన వ్యాఖ్యలు ఓ మీడియాలో ప్రసారం అయ్యాక వైరల్ అయ్యాయి. ఏ కంపెనీ తప్పు చేసినా, ఏ మనిషి తప్పు చేసినా శిక్షించాల్సింది చట్టం, కేసు పెట్టాల్సింది పోలీసే. కానీ అది మా ప్రాధాన్యం కాదు అని డీజీపీ చెప్పడం అందరినీ విస్మయానికి గురిచేస్తోంది. బహుశా అందుకే ఎల్జీ పాలిమర్స్ కంపెనీ చీమ కుట్టినట్టు కూడా లేకుండా ప్రశాంతంగా ఉంది. ఈరోజు మృతదేహాలతో కంపెనీ ముందు ధర్నా చేస్తే గాని స్పందించలేదు. ముఖ్యమంత్రి ఏమో కంపెనీ త్వరలో ఓపెన్ అవుతుంది, ఉద్యోగాలిస్తాం అంటున్నారు. తమ సొంత మనుషులను చంపిన వాడి వద్ద పోయి ఎవరైనా పనిచేయగలరా? అంటే ఇది ఎలా ఉంటుందంటే... రేప్ చేసిన అమ్మాయిని పెళ్లాడి జీవితం ఇస్తాను అన్నట్టుంది.

మనుషుల ప్రాణాలు పోయింది కంపెనీ కారణంగా.... జీవితాంతో ఆ కంపెనీ ఆ కుటుంబాలను ఉత్తినే పోషించాలి వాస్తవానికి. విదేశాల్లో అయితే ఇలాంటి తీర్పులే వస్తాయి. కానీ వాడి కిందే పనిచేసి జీతం తీసుకోవాలట. ఇంతకంటే దారుణమైన ఆఫర్ ఏమైనా ఉంటుందా? పోనీ ఏదైనా గవర్నమెంటు ఉద్యోగం ఇస్తాం అంటే అది ఒక పద్ధతి. కానీ హంతకుడి వద్దే పని ఇప్పిస్తే అదేమైనా శాశ్వతంగా నిలబడుతుందా?

 

ముఖ్యమంత్రి, డీజీపీ అసలు ఎల్జీ పాలిమర్స్ ను హెచ్చరించకపోతే.... వారు ఎందుకు భయపడతారింక? అసలు వీరికి ఆ కంపెనీపై అంత ప్రేమ ఎందుకు?

ఎల్జీ పాలిమర్స్ పరిశ్రమ యాజమాన్యంపై ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్ ప్రభుత్వం ఈగ వాలకుండా చూస్తూండటం వివాదాస్పదమవుతోంది. అత్యంత ఘోర విషాదానికి పరిశ్రమ యాజమాన్య నిర్లక్ష్యమే స్పష్టమైన కారణం అని తెలుస్తున్నప్పటికీ.. ఘటన జరిగిన రోజు సాయంత్రం.. ఎఫ్‌ఐఆర్ నమోదు చేశారు. కానీ ఎలాంటి చర్యలు తీసుకోలేదు. పోలీసులు ఎఫ్‌ఐఆర్‌తోనే తమ పని అయిపోయిందన్నట్లుగా ఉన్నారు. అదే సమయంలో ప్రభుత్వం విచారణ పేరుతో ఓ కమిటీని నియమించి.. ఏకంగా నెల రోజులు గడువు ఇచ్చేసింది. మరో వైపు ఎన్జీటీ కూడా ఓ కమిటీని నియమించినా.. పది రోజుల్లోనే నివేదిక సమర్పించాలని ఆదేశించింది. యాజమాన్యంపై ఏపీ సర్కార్ చూపిస్తున్న సానుకూలత.. జాతీయ మీడియాలో సైతం చర్చనీయాంశమవుతోంది. పన్నెండు మంది చనిపోవడానికి కారణమైన పరిశ్రమ యాజమాన్యంపై 48 గంటలలు గడిచినా ఏపీ సర్కార్ చిన్న చర్య కూడా తీసుకోకపోవడం ఏమిటన్నదానిపై విస్తృతమైన చర్చ లు నిర్వహిస్తున్నారు. తొలి రోజుల.. ముఖ్యమంత్రి జగన్ సలహాదారులు.. జాతీయ మీడియాతో మాట్లాడేందుకు వచ్చి.. సమాధానం చెప్పలేక వెళ్లిపోయారు. తర్వాత ఎవరూ… జాతీయ మీడియాకు సమాధానం ఇచ్చేందుకు సాహసించడం లేదు. అందరూ.. చర్యలు ఎందుకు తీసుకోవడం లేదనే ..ఒకే ప్రశ్న అడుగుతున్నారు. ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్‌లోని విపక్షాలు కూడా.. ఎల్జీ పాలిమర్స్ యాజమాన్యంతో.. ప్రభుత్వ పెద్దలకు సంబంధాలు ఉండబట్టే.. వదిలేస్తున్నారని ఆరోపణలు గుప్పిస్తున్నారు. పెను విషాదానికి కారణమైన పరిశ్రమపై చిన్న చిన్న కేసులు పెట్టడం ఏమిటని.. మాజీ ముఖ్యమంత్రి చంద్రబాబు ట్విట్టర్‌లో ఆశ్చర్యం వ్యక్తం చేశారు. మరో వైపు.. పరిశ్రమ యాజమాన్యం మరింత ధీమాగా ఉంది. ప్రభుత్వంతో కలిసి పని చేస్తామంటూ ప్రకటన చేసింది. ఘటన జరగడం దురదృష్టకరమని .. ఘటనపై సాంకేతిక నిపుణులు, ప్రభుత్వంతో కలిసి విచారణ చేస్తామని చెప్పుకుంది. బాధితులను ఆదుకునేందుకు ప్రత్యేక టాస్క్‌ఫోర్స్‌ ఏర్పాటు చేసింది.. బాధితుల మెడికల్‌ అవసరాల కోసం కమిటీ ఏర్పాటు చేస్తామని చెప్పుకొచ్చింది. బాధిత కుటుంబాలను ఆదుకుంటామని .. దీర్ఘకాలిక ప్రయోజనాల కోసం పనిచేస్తామని ఆఫర్ ఇచ్చింది. అసలు తప్పు ఎక్కడ జరిగిందో స్పష్టంగా తెలుస్తున్నా… ప్రజలకు తాయిలాలు ఇచ్చి.. సంతృప్తి పరుద్దామనే ఆలోచనే.. అటు ప్రభుత్వం.. ఇటు పరిశ్రమ చేస్తున్నాయన్న విమర్శలు వినిపిస్తున్నాయి.

విశాఖలో కొన్ని వేల మంది ప్రజల ప్రాణాలను రిస్క్‌లో పెట్టిన ఎల్జీ పాలిమర్స్ సంస్థ యాజమాన్యంపై ఇంత వరకూ ఈగ కూడా వాలలేదు. కానీ బాధితులపై మాత్రం వరుసగా కేసులు నమోదవుతున్నాయి. ఎల్జీ పాలిమర్స్ నిర్వాకానికి వ్యతిరేకంగా ఎవరు గళమెత్తినా.. నిరసన చేసినా.. పోలీసులు ఉన్న పళంగా అరెస్ట్ చేసి తీసుకెళ్లిపోతున్నారు. ఎల్జీ పాలిమర్స్ సంస్థ వద్ద మృతదేహాలతో.. చుట్టుపక్కల గ్రామాల ప్రజలు పెద్ద ఎత్తున ఆందోళన చేశారు. పరిశ్రమను పరిశీలించడానికి డీజీపీ, మంత్రి అవంతి తదితరులు అదే సమయంలో వచ్చింది. దాంతో పోలీసులు అక్కడ ఆందోలన చేస్తున్న వారందర్నీ అరెస్ట్ చేసే ప్రయత్నం చేశారు. యువకులు పెద్ద ఎత్తున తిరగబడ్డారు. అప్పటికి చుట్టుపక్కల గ్రామాల నుంచి నిరసన తెలిపేందుకు వస్తున్న గ్రామస్తుల్ని పోలీసులు అదుపులోకి తీసుకున్నారు. పరిశ్రమ వద్ద ఆందోళన చేస్తున్న వారిపై కేసులు నమోదు చేస్తామని హెచ్చరికలు చేస్తున్నారు. పలువురు వెంకటాపురం గ్రామస్తులను పోలీసులు అరెస్ట్ చేసి బలవంతంగా తీసుకెళ్లారు. అయినా వందల మంది పరిశ్రమ వద్దకు తరలి వచ్చారు. పరిశ్రమను తక్షణం మూసివేయాలని.. అక్కడ్నుంచి వేరే చోటకు తరలించే వరకూ ఆందోళన చేస్తామని.. సమీప గ్రామాల ప్రజలు స్పష్టం చేశారు. ఎవరు గట్టిగా మాట్లాడినా పోలీసులు అరెస్టు చేస్తున్నారని.. బాధిత గ్రామాల్లో గాలిలో ఆక్సిజన్‌ స్థాయిని పెంచే ప్రయత్నాలు కూడా చేయడం లేదని ఆగ్రహం వ్యక్తం చేస్తున్నారు. ఎల్జీ పాలిమర్స్ సంస్థపై ఎఫ్ఐఆర్ నమోదు చేశారు కానీ ఎలాంటి చర్యలు చేపట్టలేదు. ఆ సంస్థకు చెందిన ఉన్నతాధికారులంతా దిలాసా ప్రభుత్వ పెద్దలతో కలిసి సమీక్షల్లో పాల్గొంటున్నారు. అదో మంచి కంపెనీ అని స్వయంగా ముఖ్యమంత్రి కితాబివ్వడంతో.. తదుపరి చర్యలు తీసుకునే విషయంలో అధికారులు వెనుకడుగు వేస్తున్ననట్లుగా తెలుస్తోంది. న్యాయం చేయాలని ఆందోలన చేస్తున్న బాధితుల విషయంలో మాత్రం.. పోలీసులు కఠినంగా వ్యవహరిస్తున్నారు.
