Gradual Resumption of Select Passenger Services by Indian Railways

Indian Railways plans to gradually restart passenger train operations from 12th May, 2020, initially with 15 pairs of trains (30 return journeys). These trains will be run as special trains from New Delhi Station connecting Dibrugarh, Agartala, Howrah, Patna, Bilaspur, Ranchi, Bhubaneswar, Secunderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram, Madgaon, Mumbai Central, Ahmedabad and Jammu Tawi. 

Thereafter, Indian Railways shall start more special services on new routes, based on the available coaches after reserving 20,000 coaches for COVID-19 care centres and adequate number of coaches being reserved to enable operation of up to 300 trains everyday as “Shramik Special” for stranded migrants. 

Booking for reservation in these trains will start at 4 pm on 11th May and will be available only on the IRCTC website (https://www.irctc.co.in/). Ticket booking counters at the railway stations shall remain closed and no counter  tickets (including platform tickets) shall be issued. Only passengers with valid confirmed tickets will be allowed to enter the railway stations.  It will be mandatory for the passengers to wear face cover and undergo screening at departure and only asymptomatic passengers will be allowed to board the train. Further details including train schedule will be issued separately in due course.

No option other than gradual reopening can't keep extending lock down...

If feel tomorrow this shall be discussed in PM & CMs conference but possibly lock down could go till month end for reasons...

TG already extended till May 29th Center will mostly do the same mostly because of Ramjan after that they can't extend the lockdown..

Guidelines for Passengers:

  • It is mandatory for all passengers on these 15 pairs of special services trains to wear face cover/mask and will be mandated to undergo screening at the time of departure. 
  • Only asymptomatic passengers will be allowed to travel on the trains.
  • No concession will be allowed to passengers (Students/Sr citizens) on the special trains. 
  • No provision of tatkal and premium tatkal accommodation.
  • No Current booking shall be allowed.
  • Concessional tickets and tickets against free complimentary passes which are not reimbursable shall not be admissible in this train.
  • Only point to point booking shall be allowed. No cluster/BPT bookings/bulk bookings etc shall be permitted.
  • Online cancellation shall be permitted up to 24hrs before scheduled departure of train. Cancellation charge shall be 50% of fare.
  • No catering charges to be included in the fare. Provision for pre paid meal booking, e-catering shall be disabled, however IRCTC shall make provision for ‘dry ready to eat’ meals and packaged drinking water on payment on board. 
  • All other terms and conditions shall remain same as applicable for the category of train unless specified above.

MHA issues SPOs for train travel, confirmed e-tickets mandatory

Confirmed e-tickets are mandatory to travel by train, according to the Standard Operating Procedures issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs. Additionally, all train passengers will be screened and only asymptomatic persons will be allowed to travel.

Passengers will also have to mandatorily use masks during travel and will be provided hand sanitizers at entry and exit points of the station and coaches.

IRCTC website is down, says Railways

"Data pertaining to special trains is being fed on the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) website. Train ticket bookings will be available in a short while. Please wait. Inconvenience is regretted," the Ministry of Railways said on Monday.

Railways says passengers must carry own linen for travel

All passengers are advised to download and use the Aarogya Setu application. No Linen, blankets and curtains shall be provided inside the train. Passengers are advised to carry their own linen for the travel, the Ministry of Railways said on Monday.
