HC To Monitor Mental Status Of Doctor!

With the alleged ill-treatment of suspended anaesthetist Dr K Sudhakar, who behaved like a mad man in a drunken state on the Visakhapatnam roads, catching the attention of national media, the Andhra Pradesh high court intervened in the matter and decided to monitor his mental status.

On Wednesday, the state high court directed Visakhapatnam sessions judge to record the statement of Sudhakar, who had been admitted to mental hospital in Visakhapatnam for treatment for his acute psychosis disorder.

The session judge will obtain the statement of Sudhakar within the hospital to ascertain whether he was really a mental patient or a depressed man.

The high court asked the judge to submit Sudhakar's statement by Thursday evening and posted the case to Friday for further hearing.

Videos of the alleged ill-treatment of Sudhakar by Visakhapatnam police by tying his hands behind his back, beating him and dragging him on the road went viral in the social media.

Sudhakar was also seen removing his shirt and abusing chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and the state government also hit the headlines. The police said he was taken into custody for creating nuisance.

Sudhakar, who worked at Narsipatnam government area hospital, was suspended for raising the issue of shortage of masks and PPE kits for doctors.

The Indian Medical Association has taken serious note of the treatment meted out to the anaesthetist and lodged its protest with chief minister YS Jagan.

While declaring that it does not accept the language used by Sudhakar against the CM and others, the IMA concluded that Sudhakar was put to mental stress by suspension for raising the issue of shortage of masks and PPE kits for doctors in view of the Corona threat
