He is the best player of spin of all time not just among Indian players but all players of all the teams.

People who watched him play the likes of Warne and Murali would know his brilliance against spin

he's probably the best wicketkeeper batsman, closely followed by sangakkara.

he never comes up in discussions of world test xi etc.

why compare ... Both are really good and we are lucky to have them both.

my opinion, Dravid has little bit more impact in Tests (this is irrespective of numbers, position, etc)

to challenge the false notion that dravid is a better test batsman than Tendulkar.

Interestingly this news came today

Rahul Dravid beats Sachin Tendulkar in Wisden poll on greatest Indian Test batsman

Rahul Dravid is the greatest Indian Test batsman, according to a poll conducted on social media by Wisden India. Dravid beat Tendulkar by a narrow margin of votes in the final round of voting.

Dravid got 52 per cent of the votes, with as many as 11,400 fans taking part in the final round of voting. “Much like Dravid batted during his playing career, he dug in and fought back in the poll, eventually crossing the line with a decent lead at the very end,” said the Wisden India report.

The poll initially had 16 Indian batting greats, with Sunil Gavaskar and Virat Kohli being the two others to have made it through to the ‘semi finals’. Gavaskar beat Kohli in the ‘third-place play-off’ by a narrow margin.

Speaking about Dravid and Tendulkar recently, their India teammate VVS Laxman had said Dravid had reached close to Tendulkar’s level with his ‘sheer hardwork’.

Dravid was a better overseas batsman than Sachin, and he was well ahead of him on seaming tracks. Check out their performances in England which has the most seaming tracks, Dravid also did exceptionally well in South Africa which has bouncy tracks.

That said, it's a close one between these two. You also have to consider the fact that Dravid consistently came at No 3 compared to Sachin who came after him. So Dravid had to play the dual role of a sheet anchor if the openers get a good start or play the early new ball if one of the openers departed soon, which he did with exceptional elan. Most of the greats usually have batted at No.3 including Sir Don Bradman, Sir Gary Sobers etc. That goes a long way in determining the greatest lists.

Sachin is naturally more talented as a batsman no one's arguing that, but Dravid has a temperament which compares favorably with the greats of any time in cricketing history, no wonder he was a lynchpin of our batting esp in hostile overseas tournaments.
