Innovation in the US is vastly over rated, yes there are tons of products and services but the end goal of all those products and services is not to alleviate the condition of the people living in the US. It's rather to keep them in a repetitive cycle of consumerism, mass consumerism which is going to benefits those companies that provide these products and services. 

Barring the improvement in living standards some of the technological innovations have made possible there hasn't been any marked increase in the happiness of the people living in such a mass consumer driven society and if anything, there's been a greater erosion of the family system and the social structure due to the above. Hardly a model worth emulating for India, try to understand the issue from a larger historical perspective instead of making half assed observations and blaming people who choose to be consumers in a society where they have little to no reason to innovate.

All this innovation and entrepreneurship hasn't happened in the US in a day, it takes decades if not longer for any society to see the levels of innovation we see in the US and even a lot of that is innovation that's not really doing anything to help the society at large. A middle income country like India can't take the same steps a high income country like the US to achieve the same results, if anything the services industry has helped India reach the level of a middle income country from a low income country. 

Plus this innovation comes at a price, while you see the few that succeed you won't see the vast majority who don't make it to the top. LIving in a society which makes it seem like the winner takes all only makes people more oblivious to this gulf and de-sensitizes them from being a compassionate society. I hope India never follows this "innovation" model of the US, although I believe it's too late at this point since India is more of a consumer driven society at this point than ever before.
