In the bride-hunting circles of relatives, an ideal candidate is (for marriage, they are not looking for girls to set you up with):

  • Fair. White— to put it more precisely.
  • Tall. Not taller than your son, of course. Not taller than 6, because that’s absurd. Height is not a decisive factor though, it’s more like a perk— taller the better.
  • Long, black hair.

That’s pretty much it, on the appearance front.

Sure there are exceptions— people who take qualifications section in the biodata seriously, but its better to leave the exceptions out with a mention. No one seems to care about what she has to say (except the groom, but he doesn’t has a say, or an option, most of the times), infact, the less she speaks the better. Modesty— they call it.

So, an ideal Indian woman from the view point of a parent is Fair, Tall, has long black hair, and has a degree— newest addition.

Finally everything comes down to whether she is manglik and with well-off parents.

This is what the idea of an ideal woman has been for centuries here. Your father and grandfather wanted a fair wife and who knew cooking.

The inspiration for this idealism has manifestations in what our idea of a goddess is:

It’s a miracle how we chose to ignore that book and veena for soo long. This look finds itself in the pop-matrimony culture.

The average desperate youth forms his idea of a perfect woman from the things he see in movies and on social media. The one feature that remains common is the skin color. And while the parents might not explicitly consider hotness, it finds way in our guy’s set of considerations.

Quora is a huge deception when it comes to an honest representation of a population. It’s highly unrepresentative. Let’s be clear— a very small percentage (most of them are here) give serious consideration to intelligence. The youth has serious deficits of things to talk about, so where one must consider her opinion on things and her hobbies as attractive; bosom, fashion and the hairstyle takes the final stage in the mainstream dating scene. An ideal woman is not ideal without an ideal figure.

But who are we kidding. Everyone settles for ‘atleast a girl’ in the end, but we are talking about ideal. Interrupt me if I’m wrong, in the recent past, I’ve seen this image of a girl to be particularly desirable among the youth:

  • Glasses. Wide rimmed frame.
  • Straight, long hair (preferrably highlighted.)
  • Make up. A shitload of makeup.

( Sexy nerd look, as I’ve been told.)

Get/do these and majority will consider you hot (said ‘maal’ colloquially). However, to be called ideal, one needs few more things in this competitive times: flat belly and a fashion sense.

India is a big country and a certain percentage (still a lot) will find passion attractive; will place fun over dull hot; care about what she has to say rather than how she looks.

Individually speaking, an ideal woman is not — everything that I have talked about. The term is subjective and there comes a time when everyone place someone even above this epitome of perfection:

4)Marries whenever and whoever her parents asked her

One who should live, like the way her parents, society wants her to live..without giving single f**k to her choice and feelings.

According to Ancient Indian culture, that's how Ideal Indian Woman should be!

I'm not supporting this.

But till this day, we have crores of people here believing in this.
