Budget ?what features do you want ? Do you want to enjoy driving or want a comfortable ride ?  How many members would need to fit ?

20k mile leases are a bit costly , I would suggest outright buying a car .

In California I would suggest a Tesla model Y if it's within your budget .

If you want a reliable , practical ,good resale and cheap to purchase and maintain ....Toyota corolla (20-22k)

If you want same as above in CUV - rav4  (25-35k)

If you want a luxurious interiors and better engine - Acura RDX (MDX is outdated) (40-48k)

If you want a big comfortable SUV  - Kia Telluride (37-40k) , world car of the year

If you want to enjoy driving,  nothing beats mazda miata

If you want luxury German car , that's best to lease

due to covid the car sales were badly hit. you might get good deals to buy

On the contrary, inventory is less and dealers are not budging from MSRP

The sales are down due to production issue , most dealers stopped giving any discount on new stock . Dealers are actually running out of stock

This is a terrible time to buy a new car , many Americans are getting 3000$per month tax free money and are still buying new cars on finance
