The reason testing is done is not just to identify and quarantine, it helps understand the level of immunity in a population. Consider this a step before the "Herd immunity" kicks in. Also, from a public health perspective, it's important to understand the prevalence, contagiousness of the disease - to decide on the nature of mitigation efforts. So, testing should not be downplayed.

yes down playing testing is counter productive and testing only helps in containment

Three months down the road, with no vaccine in sight and no treatment...Herd Immunity is the only option.

Vulnerable will stay at home and less vulnerable will  go back to life as usual.

Govt has been wasting time by putting more stress on testing and this is the biggest failure of Govt till date.

we cannot go for herd immunity in a bindass way......if hospitalizations spike our health care cannot handle it

Do you really think TESTING will either be slowed down or stopped ?

This is a natural plan of action, in the days to come testing samples will only increase in number but not the other way..You don't need an entire administration after it.

This is the point I have been trying to raise.

Testing is not the solution  AT THIS STAGE. With such fast rising numbers, You cannot trace and isolate anymore considering the situations in India.

You cannot even build or arrange jumbo quarantine facilities anymore.

We can say for sure that 10% of the population has been already infected and numbers are fast rising. Testing numbers cannot be taken as reference as these numbers are targeted and actual sample and results may be much higher than testing trends.

Your comments about testing almost sound self-contradictory.

Government failed on making enough test centers available is a fact. And when questioned, they downplayed the need for testing. This is not me saying it.. this is now a wide-spread opinion. So...

That’s right, we cannot have herd immunity as a policy or approach.

With the way numbers are spiking, hospital beds and private care will not last for not more than two months..

Need to have a solution in an Indian way, Tye country can’t borrow idea and strategies from other countries.

So ?

Shall we just sit back and relax and blame...now that the government failed in increasing testing centers and tests ?

Why don’t we ask for resignation and push the government into further crisis ? Or How about the President’s rule or elections ?

Do you have any solution or suggestion apart from just looking back and do the blame game ?

Isn't that self-explanatory? There is no need to ridicule people who are asking more testing.

Who is ridiculing people who are asking for more testing ?

Im only saying testing is not treatment and with everything open and life coming back to normal, identifying and quarantine is next to impossible and with reports coming that it’s Air Spread, all the strategies we had in place will be least effective.

nobody is denying that bro but people stating that is a cure or a yard stick to measure success or failure is wrong is what we are debating on . If we are going to get a handle on this fearsome disease, we need to stop emphasizing the sheer number of tests. Instead, we need to insist we need a sero survey of multiple communities. Such studies test blood samples from randomly chosen individuals in a defined population. This is the way to assess the real percentage of people in a community who test positive for recent coronavirus infection. This gives a picture that is wider than just the individuals who are bringing themselves in for testing. Right now we simply have no idea how many Indians are infected with the coronavirus. This will be a key input to models trying to predict when herd immunity will arrive

In India, there are 130 crore living...

By Jan 2021, Say the vaccine is ready.

When do you think the last 10% of the population, I.e. the last 13 crore population will get the vaccine administer ?

It will take years...Do you think containment and quarantine is practically possible in Indian Society the way it is ?

blame game? Making the government accountable is neither blame-game nor it means that the public are asking them to resign. It simply means,  saying enough of irresponsibility and stop shifting the blame - that's what they did when they said they could not test enough because the ordered equipment (one?) was transferred to Kolkatta.

Well, you did it in other threads. ASAI have seen, no one argued that test = treatment. They said it controls the spike. And that's the way to do it until there's treatment/vaccine. And as a response, you sounded like a naysayer. So, I don't understand what's your point.

about air-spread, we cannot go by the speculations and use that as a counter-argument against the current measures. That's not how things work.
