We'll edge out Chinese gear in 3-5 years: Gautam Adani

Gautam Adani is confident about funding the expansion to become the world’s top energy firm.

NEW DELHI: Chinese solar equipment imports, which have a 90% share in the Indian market, will plummet to negligible levels in 3-5 years, leading industrialist Gautam Adani told ET after his company won a major tender to set up 8 GW of manufacturing-linked solar energy projects with an investment of Rs 45,000 crore.
Adani said his group is talking to potential equity and strategic partners for solar equipment manufacturing, where technology is rapidly changing. He said the group has a track record of being the only Indian business house with a series of 50:50 ventures with international players such as Total and Wilmar.

Adani Green Energy, which won the tender, aims to become the world leader by 2025 with a capacity of 25 GW, which will exceed the thermal capacity of Adani Power that would be 18-20 GW by then.

The latest tender, which involves 8 GW of solar power and 2 GW of solar cell and module manufacturing capacity, will create 400,000 jobs.

Adani said the country was rapidly moving towards self-reliance in the sector. “The 90% import of Chinese equipment will fall to 50%, and ultimately zero. In 3-5 years, it will be negligible,” Adani said.

simple.. when growth takes a hit. imports also take a hit.

unless the deficit is reduced due to increase in exports, this is like bhakts admitting that they fcuked up the economy. lol.
