JAC Making Last Attempt To Stall Capital Shift

With the decks almost cleared for the formation of three capitals for Andhra Pradesh, the farmers of Amaravati under the umbrella of Amaravati JAC has started making last ditch attempt to stall the move.

The JAC, which is fighting against shifting of administrative capital from Amaravati to Visakhapatnam, on Friday wrote letters to all the opposition parties to bring pressure on Governor Biswabhushan Harichandan not to accept the three capitals bill.

The JAC was perturbed over the reports that the Jagan Mohan Reddy government might send the two crucial bills – one, to abolish the AP Capital Region Development Authority and the second, to decentralise administration by formation of three capitals, to the Governor any time.

JAC convenor Sudhakar Rao wrote to Telugu Desam Party, Bharatiya Janata Party, Jana Sena Party, Congress, the CPI and the CPI (M) leaders to approach the Governor and submit him a representation that he should reject the two bills, if they were referred to him.

While thanking the opposition parties for supporting the Save Amaravati movement right from the beginning, the JAC leader said the two bills were introduced in June 17 in the state legislature unconstitutionally and they were expected to be sent to the Governor for his assent.

The JAC said it had written a letter to the Governor on July 15 requesting him not to consider the two bills.

“Similarly, all the opposition parties should respond immediately and bring pressure on the Governor not to give his assent to the capital bills,” Sudhakar Rao said.
