Not the same. You can still have untrustworthy people you know. 

Just wanted to know when one transitions from being a stranger to someone you are familiar with. Is it knowing the name, where they live, how they live and what they do? How long do you need to know them? A day, a month, a year or a lifetime?

You have known this person for atleast an year (two to be safe), know how they behave in every season, know they never lied to you, know they don't make you feel insecure, know they have your back, and finally when you believe that they are trustworthy. 

I know you can always argue that you can believe someone is trustworthy without knowing them, but reality is quite far from it.
