you know you don't really have to do a 'job' to make money these days... you don't even have to meet a single person in your life to make money.

Its magic. Its called the internet. 

People who still work for corporates do so because they are insecure and are following what is socially acceptable. but plenty others forge their own path.

society sucks. you can absolutely limit your interaction with it, and still make tons of money.

you seem dumb. without academic/govt research, you won't have any of the gadgets that you use today.

unless you find a way to quantify the loss to the govt, you are just speaking out of your burning arse.

i had a brilliant friend who makes 28k being postdoc in usa...works 12 hours/ day..

he seems frustrated ..have less social life

and willing to move into industry for career

yes. so your question is -- why do they keep on working despite being miserable ani.

the comfort of the familiar. 

its not that they lack skills. They can easily pick up the skills outside their specialty if they wanted to. 

they just prefer to be in academia. and their immediate circle everyone is in academia.

most corporate jobs are dull..  if you are lucky to get to do something exciting in a company, then that is different.

also companies who look for bs like 'soft' skills, and 'team work' are all loser companies. 

same with those that advertise diversity in hiring.

companies exist to solve a problem and provide a service. some of the problems may be interesting.. but most are boring and repetitive.

research offers better challenges for the smart mind.
