Why do people in management get paid more?

I am not frustrated TBH, I appreciate the money. I just think it's unfair that they get that money for not necessarily working their ass off.

Two points. Not everyone can be a mgr.  mgr ayithey telusthundi daantlo undey kastam.

 

who said mgrs dont work? Most of the mgrs were software engs before.  
scoping the project, coordinating the team. Fighting with higher mgr for additional resources, fighting with higher mgr for promoting reportees.

on top of it, working with reportees who think mgr is doing nothing.

 

software eng career growth depends on their individual performance where as mgr’s depend on complete team.

If you are able to do your job peacefully without any interruptions then it is only possible due to your manager taking care of unnecessary distractions in the background.

Technical managers do tons of work compared to individual contributors. I don’t know about people who are only people managers though.

Because they take responsibility. 

Example Why did intel oust its chief engineering officer? Not some engineer designing chips in his corner cube .

Secondly , people management is not child's play,  it is undertaker play.

I will ask you 3 questions

 

1) Why did Microsoft turned around and growing when Satya Nadella take it over?

2) Why did Apple grew a lot when Steve Jobs came back?

3) Do you think Tesla and SpaceX are worth the same without Elon Musk?

 

These are the top. The point is, managers do some things that you may not be even aware of but the companies think they are worth for the money paid.
