Legal hurdles for three capitals continue!

With the TDP and the farmers of Amaravati sponsored by the TDP mobilising all their resources, the Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy government’s ambitious plan of shifting of executive capital of Andhra Pradesh to Visakhapatnam is getting delayed again and again.

The state high court on Thursday, for the third consecutive time, extended the status quo on the formation of three capitals for AP till September 21.

On Wednesday, too, the government’s plan received a setback on Wednesday with the Supreme Court turning down its plea for vacation of the status quo.

It may be mentioned that the high court had on August 4 granted status quo till August 14 and extended it till August 27. Now, the status quo was further extended to September 21.

The status quo is applicable to the proposed abolition of the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) also.

A division bench of the state high court said it would decide a week before the next hearing date on September 21, on whether it would hold the hearing in physical presence of the lawyers or virtually or in a hybrid mode.

About 15 senior advocates, mostly from Delhi, are arguing for the nearly 70 petitioners challenging the Jagan Mohan Reddy government's decision to create three capitals and to abolish the APCRDA.
